To kick off a bit of a conversation, I've included our media release on the carbon price below. What do you think about the carbon price package? Are you satisfied its a good step in dealing with climate change? Got any concerns? Happy with BREAZE's position? Let us know your thoughts below...MEDIA RELEASE 11 July 2011Community group, BREAZE has today welcomed the renewable energy commitments delivered by the carbon price package and called for them to be rolled out as soon as possible. "There is $10 billion of new funding for renewable energy over 5 years which is a great result for Australia and for Ballarat,” said Will Bennett, spokesperson for BREAZE. “We’re keen to see as much of that go to renewables and energy efficiency as possible and not polluting energy sources such as fossil gas. “Making renewable energy cheaper is the best thing we can do to guard against rising energy prices into the future.” “This package shows that the government, the Greens and the rural Independents are serious about setting a course for a renewable energy-powered future for Australia.” “Funding for renewable energy has been a political football for too long. Now that these measures have been announced it is imperative we get moving and see the money start flowing as soon as possible. "Renewable energy presents a huge opportunity for our region with employment in new wind and bioenergy projects and manufacturing supply to other industries such as solar power. “More investment in renewable energy will also mean a move towards cleaner air and water and safer, healthier communities.” “We recently presented local MP, Catherine King, with the results of nearly 800 Conversations about renewable energy we held in Ballarat and surrounding regions and it was clear that her constituents want to see more renewable energy. “We are delighted that Catherine King has heard the call from the community of Ballarat for renewable energy and has taken this message strongly to the government. “Together with many other community groups across the country, BREAZE has campaigned hard for this kind of outcome and we look forward to seeing this strong beginning built further into the future. |

You'll notice that the BREAZE response didn't cover the details of the entire package this time around. We campaigned in a very focussed way as part of the 100% Renewables campaign to get the govt to deliver these kind of $ for renewables and that's what we received. We can have all the opinions we want about what's in the package, and I certainly do, but unless you're able to exert some kind of influence on the outcome its kind of academic, really.
sycophantic & limp at best!!
