On Friday 8th of October 2010, Hepburn Wind held a celebratory event to mark the 'turning of the sod', as construction for Australia's first ever community-owned wind farm officially commenced!
The two turbines (which will be located on Leonards Hill, 10km south of Daylesford, Victoria) are expected to be operational in the first half of 2011. Expert analysis predicts that the wind farm will annually generate more power than used by the houses of Daylesford.
What a shining example Hepburn Wind represents for community groups around Australia. No doubt the project will inspire many more community-owned renewable energy initiatives. It's been five years in the making, but well worth the wait!

Join Hepburn Wind and support BREAZE at the same time! Hepburn Wind is building Australia’s first community wind farm and leading the way in developing a new model for community engagement in renewable energy. There are now over 1300 members of the cooperative who have invested over $8 million, demonstrating that communities can make a difference. Construction of the two wind turbines will commence later this year, but there is still time to join!
